Predictions For Animated Content in 2024

Maybe you’re considering adding animated content to your marketing campaigns and communication strategies this year.

To that, we say welcome!

So where can animation be most utilized in the ever-changing landscape of content creation?

Here are our Top 5 Predictions for where animation is headed in 2024.

  1. Let’s Get Vertical

Reels and Stories are continuing to change how we accept and ingest information. With a vertical view, content will need to be created to adapt to two widely different formats.

This affects every aspect of an animation production, all the way down to the script. So we predict you’ll start to see more ads, dance videos, and even explainer videos make their way to vertical storytelling through social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

As our good friend Myke Connolly tells it, Animation will be an incredible tool to stand out among the scroll.

2. More Impact, Less “Blah”

Consumers are getting tired of being ‘sold to’ (we’re tired, too)!

So we predict we’ll see more of a focus towards storytelling and story marketing to create a deeper, authentic connection with a target audience.

Animation will play a large role in this, especially in sharing historical information. Here are some of our favorite depictions of information from 2023, which we look forward to seeing more of this year.

3. Studios Utilizing AI Will Increase…For Better or Worse

The reality is AI is here in many creative spaces, and most studios will handle this reality differently. We’ll see some embrace every aspect of it within their productions. Some will outright ban it. Others will find some form of hybrid, choosing where and where not to use the tools available to them.

We predict that AI will be utilized for showing clients concept images of what their projects could look like.

In our opinion, this can create a number of challenges, because while it might be able to be quick to create a concept, trying to replicate that image in a full production can be timely and difficult, resulting in a disconnect in the visual expectation of the piece.

4. Step Aside, 3D

The market has tightened this year, making budgets more frugal. As a result, specific styles of animation, which typically require more steps and time, may slow down.

We predict companies will utilize 2D and Motion Design to produce quality content still while keeping the ever-fluctuating economy in mind.

On the other hand, given new AI tools, we may see Generative AI 3D imagery increase, but quality motion may still suffer.

5. More Deep Fakes 😞

While we all know that video will continue to be utilized and grow as a form of information sharing over the next few years, we look at its impact through the lens of animation.

We predict that we might see way more deep fakes; which we believe is just another form of utilizing the medium of animation. It’s important as storytellers and consumers of this content to be mindful of making sure we can tell the difference and maintain authenticity and validity in the truth as it gets harder to decipher in the digital world.

Based on our predictions, we believe that getting your message across this year will come down to your creativity, authenticity, and mindfulness in your purpose for the content you make.
